Inovance AC drives and solutions enhance electrical motor testing performance for Vascat

Barcelona, Spain, 21st April 2026 – Spanish electrical motor manufacturer Vascat has used technology from global industrial automation specialist Inovance to enhance motor control performance in product testing. Vascat uses MD520 AC drives provided by Inovance to test their own motors in-house and control a second motor that acts as the load to the motor being tested. With the MD520 drive, it is now possible for Vascat to test a wide range of electrical motors with or without feedback, including induction, synchronous reluctance and permanent magnet synchronous motors. The ability to control without feedback allows for an effective preliminary test, ruling out any motor feedback problems.
 

Inovance products integrate seamlessly into existing system

Vascat selected Inovance because of the key benefits provided not only by the solutions themselves, but the ease of integration into an existing system. An Inovance EtherNet/IP communication card enabled effective integration with the existing control system. The MD520 AC drive could be installed into the existing common DC bus architecture without risk, via the DC bus terminals. And the drive’s internal pre-charging circuit was also effective on these terminals, allowing a connection to the drive even when the DC bus system is already powered on.

Inovance solutions used in the Vascat system include two 220 kW MD520-4T220S-INT AC drives, MD500-EN1 EtherNet/IP option cards, MD38PGMD incremental encoder option cards, and SOP-20-810 LCD keypads.

Vascat praised Inovance drive performance in challenging project

The main challenge presented by Vascat was to integrate the Inovance MD520 AC drive into an existing system using a common DC bus architecture and controlling it from a third-party controller via EtherNet/IP communication. Integration with the existing control system was challenging because the MD520 was replacing a drive from a competitor with a different parameter structure. Despite this, the system could be adapted to integrate the drive. Vascat was happy with the drive performance and the company can now easily control a large range of motors from low to high power ratings, which was not possible with the previous AC drive.
